Charlie Carter preferred to highlight the fact that Chesterfield won against Aldershot Town last night rather than reflect on his own two-goal contribution, which included a superb solo effort.
Speaking after the match, Carter said: “I was really happy about getting the three points - that’s the main thing for me. I scored two goals but the main thing was that the team won.
“It’s a long season and we’ve only played two games. We have to keep chipping away, keep going, keep working hard and the results will come, hopefully.
The 21-year-old midfielder was keen to perform well after being disappointed with his showing at Ebbsfleet United. He said: “I thought my performance on Saturday was not like I’d normally play like. I can do a lot better than I did.
“I wanted to come out tonight and try and put it right. I was happy to open my account, especially in front of the home fans.”
Carter praised the backing from the supporters, commenting: “The fans were fantastic. As soon as I walked out from the tunnel, you could tell they were fantastic. They were loud, they were right behind us and that helped us to get the win.”
With another home game this weekend, against Braintree Town, Carter is looking for more of the same. “We go into Saturday’s game with the same mentality and hopefully we can win,” he added.
