Speaking to the media today ahead of the first game of the season against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, Martin Allen commented on how impressed he has been by the level of support for his side.

Spireites manager Martin Allen, spoke to the media today ahead of the team’s first game of the season against Ebbsfleet on Saturday. He commented on how impressed he has been by the level of support for his side.

Allen said: “I’ve just been told we have sold 3,000 season tickets, which is awesome. Three of the four stands at the stadium have now been sold out to sponsorship, which is another very positive move."

The manager stated that all of players are fit and ready to be involved on Saturday, and that he hopes his team can replicate the good performance they showed against Wigan Athletic in pre-season.

He said: “For that game last week we eased off the training going into that match and it was a good performance.

“We were by far the better team and they’re a Championship team, but we have to do that on a consistent basis home and away.”

Allen points out that Chesterfield will face tough opposition at the weekend. “They were a play-off team last season, so they are one of the best sides in the division," he said. "They have got a fantastic young manager and he’s an excellent coach.

“They’ve had a promotion the year before, and last year they were in the play-offs. It’s a decent good club which is on the way up.

“We have got to be at our absolute best on and off the field to get anything from this game.”

Allen will be facing up against a couple of Ebbsfleet players that he has previously managed in Danny Kedwell and Miles Weston and he spoke about the threat that Kedwell will provide.

The Spireites boss commented: “He’s a very good player, but has always been weighed down a little bit because he’s won a medal with me, and it can be heavy at times.

“He is a fantastic player, and I’m looking forward to seeing them both after the game.”

When asked about setting down a marker in this game, Allen added: “Each game that we play we will prepare the same way; we will just prepare for each game as it comes along.

“We will do our best, and hopefully our best will be good enough to get as many points as we possibly can.”
