Chesterfield manager Jack Lester spoke to the press earlier today, ahead of tomorrow’s match with Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn, 3pm. Here’s some of what he had to say….
On the possibility of a new director of football coming into the club: “It’s a very important role and you can’t just get anybody in, you have to get someone who is talented.
“It’s the best way to make money in football, and a football club is a business that has to make money.”
On the midweek loss at Exeter City: “We had some good chances, but the game was won and lost in both boxes. The game in between the boxes was ok.
“That’s the key to the game, being good in both boxes and that’s what let us down on the night.”
On Joe Rowley’s performance at St James’ Park: “That’s the brightest I’ve seen him for a little while. And I thought he had a good impact on the game.
“He has to show more fight at times, he’s a lovely footballer and he’s just getting used to the mindset that is required.
“He found his way out of the team and he needs to understand what would get him back into the team quite quickly, and that’s performances in training and how you go about your work.”
On pressure: “There’s pressure on us to perform, but you’ve just got to make sure that your processes are right and that you’re doing the right things and concentrate on having a good game, and I think we’ll do that tomorrow.”
On Forest Green team news: “It might be a bit too soon for Evo, but he’s travelling with us, so we’ll see.
“Jordan Sinnott will play in a game on Tuesday and that’s much needed. Gozie Ugwu has trained with us this week and he’s been really bright, and he’ll travel with us tomorrow.”
On Forest Green: “They’re a good side, but they’ve been on a difficult run.
“They’ve got some good players, and there are areas where they can hurt you, but there are areas where we can hurt them."
