Tommy Wright has agreed to return to Chesterfield as part of new manager Jack Lester's backroom team.
Wright, who was assistant manager under John Sheridan when the Spireites won the League Two title and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, has been named first-team coach.
He said: "It's always been a special place for me and I want to help bring the good times back to Chesterfield Football Club."
Lester is delighted to have been able to bring in Wright, who also played a key role in Barnsley's promotion to the Championship two seasons ago.
He said: "Tommy is an exceptional coach who has a wealth of experience in the Football League.
"His success with Barnsley in recent times has proved that he's not only able to maximise performance as a team but help develop individuals.
"I enjoyed working with Tommy when I was a player and I am very excited to have him on board."
Nicky Eaden was named as Lester's assistant yesterday and Wright will join the pair on the touchline for today's game at home to Cheltenham Town.
