Guy Branston, the club's director of recruitment & development, has been placed in temporary charge following the departure of manager Gary Caldwell.
Explaining the thinking behind the decision to name Branston as caretaker-manager, director & company secretary Ashley Carson said: "I offered the role on a temporary basis to Graham Barrow, but he flatly refused. He came in with Gary and he didn't want to take it.
"Guy is going to take control in the short-term and Matt Duke will help him out.
"Guy knows the players and I think he is the right man to help out in the short-term, but he's not going to be the next manager. He's very good in the role that he's got."
Carson insists that there will not be a rushed appointment. "We're going to take our time over the next week and see who applies," he said.
"I've already received a number of applications from interested parties and I think we'll have a decent list of applicants.
"There is everything to play for and it is vital that we make the right appointment."
