Team News

Swindon will check on the fitness of former Spireite Donal McDermott after the winger was forced off in the midweek Checkatrade Trophy match with Bristol Rovers.

Harry Smith and Chris Hussey will also be assessed ahead of tomorrow's fixture.

Spireites boss Jack Lester meanwhile, will take a check on the fitness of striker Chris O'Grady who didn't train on Thursday due to having a tight calf. Defender Matt Briggs could come back into contention having returned to training following a groin injury.

Long-term absentees Gozie Ugwu and Jordan Flores will once again miss out and despite completing 65 minutes for the reserves in midweek, Jerome Binnom-Williams is still not quite ready to return to first team action.

The Opposition

Manager – David Flitcroft

Former Barnsley and Bury manager Flitcroft took over at Swindon in June and he's made a good start to life at the County Ground, with the Robins currently sitting in 5th position just five points off leaders Notts County.

Flitcroft boasts an impressive record with Swindon so far, with a win percentage of 55%.

Prior to managing in Wiltshire, Flitcroft started his managerial career with Barnsley, where he would spend a year in charge of the Tykes.

After leaving Oakwell he took over the reins at Bury and in 2015 he guided the Shakers to Sky Bet League One following automatic promotion from League Two with his side finishing third in the table. He would remain in charge at Gigg Lane until November 2016.

As a player Flitcroft turned out for the likes of Preston North End, Rochdale and Bury.

One to Watch – Luke Norris

The former Brentford man is enjoying his best season to date scoring seven times in 15 appearances, having only found the net six times in 46 appearances last season.

By his own admission, his goal return was not what was required for his side, this season he vowed to return the faith showed in him by the Swindon staff.

The 24-year-old joined the Robins in the summer of 2016 for an undisclosed fee from Gillingham and has also played for the likes of Dagenham & Redbridge and Northampton Town during his career.

Head to Head

The Robins boast the better record from the previous 49 meetings, with the overall record as follows: -

Swindon – 24 (wins)

Draws – 7

Chesterfield – 18 (wins)

The Spireites have won the last two encounters between the two sides, which included Reece Mitchell's 90th minute strike in a 1-0 win at the County Ground in March.

From the dugout

The match with the Robins will prove a tough test for the Spireites, with Flitcroft's men looking for a sixth straight victory in all compeitions.

Lester is aware of that, but believes that his team can head into the County Ground with confidence following their recent performances.

He said: "It was always going to be a tough game, but it’s one that we’re looking forward to and relishing.

"We’re stepping in the right direction, the lads have had a good week of training and I think we’re pretty close to putting some good results together."
