Player of the Year Ian Evatt, who was due to be out of contract, has agreed a new 12-month deal.
The experienced defender is delighted to have reached an agreement over his future at the club. He said: “The club is very close to my heart and I’m settled in the area so I turned down offers from elsewhere in order to stay.
"I enjoy working with the manager and his backroom staff and I desperately want to lead Chesterfield back to League One.”
Now in his second spell with the Spireites, Evatt featured prominently last season before suffering an injury in the game at home to Shrewsbury in March, which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.
Manager Gary Caldwell is pleased to have retained Evatt’s services as he begins the task of re-shaping the squad. “Ian was the best player at the club last season and I’m delighted to have retained someone with his experience. We need players with a similar knowledge and outlook at the club.”
Evatt first joined Chesterfield from Derby County in the summer of 2003. Following spells at QPR and Blackpool, he rejoined the Spireites four years ago and is approaching his 250th appearance for the club.
