Charlie Wakefield is the latest youngster from the academy to be handed a professional contract.
The versatile 17-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, is delighted to have been given the opportunity to turn professional.“It feels great to have signed," he said after penning a two-year deal.
“It’s a dream come true as I’ve always wanted to get a professional contract, but it’s only the start and I’ve got to keep working hard to impress in pre-season.”
Academy manager Mark Smith said: “Charlie is a tenacious player who has a lot of potential. He’s far from the finished article but he’s shown enough to earn a contract.
“This shows once again how much the academy is being supported by the club, which is great to see. It makes my job easier when it comes to attracting youngsters to Chesterfield as the players and their parents can see how many academy graduates have been given contracts.”
Wakefield made his debut as a substitute in the game at Scunthorpe United towards the end of the season.
