Chesterfield have today agreed a double signing, capturing experienced duo Scott Wiseman and Joe Anyon.
The pair will move to the Proact on two-year contracts, subject to passing medicals, when their contracts at Scunthorpe United expire.
Defender Wiseman, 31, won back-to-back promotions with Hull City as they climbed to the Championship. The Gibraltar international, who also played for Barnsley and Preston North End in the second tier, made 28 appearances last season.
Anyon, who is a 30-year-old keeper, made over 100 appearances for Port Vale at the start of his career. After spells at Lincoln City, Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra, he joined Scunthorpe in 2015 and made 15 appearances last term.
Manager Gary Caldwell believes that both players are excellent additions to the squad. He said: “Scott is a winner who can play in a number of positions, which is important when I consider how we are going to set up for different games. Joe also has experience of playing in big games. He’s very capable with his hands and feet, which is very important for me because of the way I want to play.”
Guy Branston, director of recruitment & development, said: “They are both good ages and the type of characters you want to lift the dressing room, with solid backgrounds. Scott is a leader who has been in promotion-winning sides and Joe is a talented keeper with good distribution.”
Wiseman said: “I’ve had a lot of good recommendations about Gary Caldwell. He told me what his expectations are for next season and I’m coming here because I know we want to bounce straight back.”
Anyon said: “Gary Caldwell is a young, hungry manager. He was very professional when we spoke and he sold the club to me. We want to bounce straight back.”
It was announced yesterday that Bradley Barry had agreed to join the Spireites upon the expiry of his contract at Swindon Town.
