New signing Bradley Barry can’t wait to get started with his new club and has set his sights on a promotion push next season.
Speaking exclusively to Player HD, he said: “It’s an exciting time for me and I’m looking forward to it. It’s another new chapter in my career and it’s going to be a good one.
“I didn’t think I would be coming up this far from where I live, but I had a call from the gaffer and he gave me all the right inspiration for me to come and the way we’re going to play attracted me straight away!
“Now I’m here at the ground I’m star-struck because you’ve got everything here on your doorstep and every player needs that.”
Barry is a player that manager Gary Caldwell has admired for some time and once he was aware of his Caldwell’s interest he was more than happy to become Chesterfield’s first signing of the summer.
He said: “Last week I found that they were really interested in me, I’ve known about the gaffer for quite a long time as he and [Swindon Town head coach] Luke Williams are quite good friends.
“He’s got his own way of playing, wants his own players, and when I found that he was interested I thought that it’s nice to have somebody that wants me and that I suit the way that they want to play.”
The former Brighton and Hove Albion youngster is an attacking player capable of playing at right back, wing back and even as a centre half.
He’ll join up with the squad for pre-season training and he’s keen on settling in very quickly with his new team mates.
“I don’t know any of them so there’ll be fresh faces for everyone, but I’m quite easy going and I’m looking forward to getting to know people,” he added.
“We’ve got a big year ahead of us, we want to push for promotion, and I think that it’ll be a good idea to get us all in early.
“We want to come straight back up, this club deserves to be in League One, it’s going to be exciting and a new challenge for all of us, but we’re looking forward to it.”
