Club officials were saddened to hear of the passing of Spireites supporter Dennis Wagg on Saturday evening.
Dennis passed away in Chesterfield Royal Hospital following a short illness at the age of 83, he would have turned 84 on Thursday.
He had suffered with heart and kidney problems for many years, but still managed to attend Chesterfield matches until the end of last season, missing just four home and nine away fixtures. His last Spireites match at the Proact was the final home game of the season against Charlton Athletic in April, though he also attended the Derbyshire Senior Cup final on May 2.
Dennis' love affair with the Spireites began shortly before the start of the second world war in 1939 and he became a regular away supporter in the mid-1980s. In his youth, Dennis was also a very good goalkeeper and signed schoolboy forms with Chesterfield during the 1940s. Along with his son Kevin, Dennis had recently renewed his season ticket for the 2017/18 campaign.
The club would like to offer their condolences to Dennis' family and friends at this sad time, funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course.
