Josh Tipping’s goal eight minutes from time, ensured Chesterfield’s reserves signed off their season with a 2-2 draw against Hartlepool United this afternoon.
Liam Travers had put the visitors ahead in the 20th minute before, Spireites captain, Jake Beesley levelled from close range.
Travers then scored his second of the game in early second half, before Tipping marked his return from injury with a goal from Charlie Wakefield’s pass.
Both teams could have scored more in what was an entertaining game at the Proact, Ricky German had the game’s first chance, but his header was well saved by Ben Dudinski in the opening minute.
At the other end the visitors won a corner, the ball was played to Ethan Wood on the edge of the area, before he struck a half volley which was deflected towards goal by an attacker, luckily for the Spireites, goalkeeper Dylan Parkin adjusted himself to palm the ball wide of the post.
The visitors took the lead in the 20th minute, Iffy Ofoegbu was disposed in midfield, and the ball was then picked up by Josh Hawkes whose through ball was latched onto by Liam Travers.
Travers then took his time before slotting the ball through Parkin’s legs.
Beesley was then fouled by Ben Pollock on the right flank, Wakefield whipped in another fine delivery which the visitors failed to clear, the ball dropped to Beesley who picked his spot to draw the teams level.
Parkin again had to be at his best denying Jack Blackford after he was teed up by Devante Rodney. Meanwhile, German saw another effort deflected wide.
After the interval Hartlepool made it 1-2 from their own kick off! Rodney wriggled past Dylan Hand on the edge of the area before shooting at Parkin, the loose ball was then prodded home by Travers for his second goal of the game.
The visitors continued to assert their dominance and both Josh Hawkes and former Spireite Jake Orrell both firing wide.
In the 63rd minute it looked as though Rodney would make it 1-3 after he latched on to a ball over the top of the defence, his shot took a deflection off Parkin and headed towards goal only for Hand to recover and put the ball out for a corner from the goal line.
Beesley then shot wide for the hosts, before Parkin again denied Blackford, this time with his feet.
The Spireites grew more into the game as the half wore on and they were rewarded for their perseverance when Tipping collected Wakefield’s pass before poking the ball past Dudinski.
In the closing stages, German beat a defender before seeing his effort palmed away by the ‘keeper, it would prove to be the last chance of match, as both teams ended their campaigns with a point.
