Reece Mitchell says that he couldn’t wait to return to pre-season training and start preparations for what will hopefully be a successful campaign.
Mitchell scored twice in 33 appearances last term, in what was his first in league football having spent the previous part of his career at Premier League champions Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to iFollow Mitchell said: “It’s been good! It’s been nice to meet my new team mates and everyone has come back in good shape, it’s been a good test.
“We’ve been working hard and there was a lot of running done on the first day back, the lads stayed fit over the summer but you can’t really practice for this!
“I’ve been looking forward to it since the end of last season, we all want to do better for ourselves this season and me especially – I’ve got a point to prove.”
Mitchell was joined at training by all seven of the club’s new signings and he believes despite there being a high turnover in players it feels like the squad has been together for a long time.
He added: “A lot of the lads know each other anyway having played against each other so it’s like normal really.
“Everyone wants to work hard and we feel like a team already!
“I think everybody knows that we’ve come back early, we needed it to help gel with the new players and we want to try and get off to a good start and I think that we’re on our way to doing that.”
The squad will return to training on tomorrow (Monday) as they step-up their schedule ahead of the first pre-season friendly with Sheffield FC on Tuesday, July 4.
Speaking about the upcoming games, Mitchell said: “I think that we’ve got some good tests in pre-season with Sheffield United, Rotherham and Doncaster, teams who’re all in higher divisions.
“They’ll all give us a good test and will help us get ready for the start of the season.”
