Chesterfield defender Bradley Barry is looking forward to facing Middlesbrough tomorrow night, 6.30pm, after enjoying a week’s training in Spain.
And after coming through Tuesday’s friendly with Benfica B with a good performance, the Spireites are ready for Garry Monk’s men.
Barry said: “It’s been a really good week, we’ve been working hard in training and working on the formation that we’re going to be playing against.
“We know that Middlesbrough are a good team and it’ll be perfect for us in terms of intensity, especially coming up to the season – pre-season’s gone fast!
“We’ve been working really hard with some tough running sessions, which is what we need to get our legs going.”
The Spireites were back in pre-season training on June 19, well ahead of the other clubs in the country.
As the days and weeks have progressed the intensity of the training sessions has increased significantly, for which Barry has found beneficial.
“I’m thankful for it now!” the former Swindon Town man said.
“Obviously the early start was tough, but it’s improved all of us, it was what wasneeded when you’re trying to get into League One.
“We wanted to get ahead of everyone else, I think we’re about 12 days ahead of most teams which is a bonus for all of us.
“These temperatures give you everything you need, when we get back home in more regular temperatures we’ll be fine.”
The spirit in the camp has also increased thanks to the players spending more time with each other, which has enable Barry to settle in.
“Everyone gets on with everyone, it’s an open house here which is nice, especially for me as a newcomer,” he added.
“I’ve gelled with a lot of the boys and it’s been good!”
