Chesterfield have signed midfielder Jak McCourt, who was a free agent after leaving Northampton Town.
After signing a two-year contract, the 22-year-old Liverpudlian said: “I can't wait to get started and meet the lads. I want to help get the club back to League One.
“I played here last season and the atmosphere was really good. As soon as I heard that Chesterfield wanted me, it was a ‘yes’ straight away.”
Manager Gary Caldwell is pleased to have bolstered the midfield department. He said: “It’s a position that we were well aware needed strengthening and Jak gives us something we don’t have.
“He is technically a good player as well as being very aggressive and a tough tackler.”
McCourt started his career at Leicester City and had loan spells at Torquay United and Port Vale before joining Barnsley in January 2016. He moved to Northampton last summer and scored one goal in 26 league appearances during the 2016/17 campaign.
