Friday’s defeat at Port Vale was another frustrating night for the Spireites who start the New Year in the League One relegation zone.
Despite controlling large parts of the match, Chesterfield were unable to score and were condemned to defeat as Jerome Thomas struck the winner for Vale.
However, with losses on Friday for both Shrewsbury and Swindon, the Spireites remain within touching distance of those around them going into their next fixture with fellow League One strugglers MK Dons.
Substitute Rai Simons insisted that belief within the squad has not dropped, asserting that the side will be relenting in their search for victory against Robbie Neilson’s side.
“Bad luck was against us today,” the 20-year-old admitted. “We just have to dig deep and hopefully get through it.
“It was very frustrating, we are often on top in these games but we just cannot get results at the moment, we have just got to find a way to get through it."
The forward was a 57th minute substitute for Danny Wilson’s side and told Player HD that the team will not be looking at past results when they face MK Dons.
“We cannot dwell on the past because anything can happen in football so we just have to go in with the mindset that we can win it and hopefully we do.
“We have full belief in each other, we just need to dig in and get out of this rough patch.”
