Having signed for the Spireites on transfer deadline day in January, Osman Kakay made his Chesterfield debut against Gillingham on Tuesday night.Gary Caldwell’s side sent the travelling fans into hysteria when Tom Anderson scored a last minute equaliser, tapping the ball past Stuart Nelson and into the bottom corner.
Kakay had almost scored himself moments before, having linked up with Rai Simons the young full-back cracked the ball at goal but was thwarted by the Gills ‘keeper.
Asked about his first experience of League One football, an exhausted Kakay remarked: “It was really good, a physical, physical game, really tough.”
“I thought we played really well as a team, we were really strong and solid, we did what we had to do.
The visitors were desperate for a point and fought till the very end, the equaliser coming in the 94th minute, but the full-back insisted that it was the least they deserved.
“I felt that we really deserved that point today, especially with us having conceded a goal from a long throw-in, which is a cheap way to concede.”
“The way we played today we really made our mark and definitely deserved that point.
Having almost scored a debut goal, the 19-year-old was asked whether we could see him open his account sooner rather than later?
“I am disappointed with not scoring, next time I’ll hopefully put that away, it was unlucky.”
