Spireites midfielder Liam Grimshaw was hurt after the home defeat to Oxford United on Saturday, and his urged his team mates to work harder to turn things around.

A Conor McAleny hat-trick after Rob Hall’s opener secured a 0-4 win for the visitors, and the result leaves Chesterfield in 23rd position in Sky Bet League One, eight points from safety.

Grimshaw told Player HD: “We need wins at this stage of the season, but it was more the manner of the defeat really, it’s a big gutter.

“In a few of the games recently, we’ve looked like we’re in the game, and then silly mistakes have cost us.

“We come out for the second half and obviously it’s 2-0, but if we get the next goal then we have half a chance but overall it’s more silly mistakes that have cost us.

“But we can’t make excuses we just weren’t good enough.”

Next up for the Spireites is a trip to Walsall tomorrow night, and the on-loan midfielder believes more hard work is required to turn things around.

He said: “The only thing that you can do is to work hard and give 110% as individuals.

“We’ve had two decent results away but not backed them up at home, hopefully if we put in the type of performance that we did against Millwall then we can get a result at Walsall.
