Experienced defender Drew Talbot has agreed to rejoin Chesterfield on a contract until the end of the season, with effect from January 1.
The 31-year-old full-back left the Spireites in the summer of last year after making 227 league appearances in a seven-year spell at the club. He linked up with former Chesterfield boss Paul Cook at Portsmouth and returns to the Proact after leaving Pompey by mutual consent.
Manager Jack Lester is delighted to have signed his former team-mate. “He’s a versatile player who will be a very good signing,” said Lester. “I played with him when we won League Two and I know what he's like on the training ground and in matches.
“He's a very good footballer and an excellent professional who leads by example by the way he goes about his work.”
After successfully completing his medical, Talbot said: “It’s great to be back and I’m just looking forward to getting started.
“There was talk of me returning in the summer, but nothing materialised. Jack then contacted me and as soon as I knew he wanted me, there was no doubt where I wanted to go.”
