Team news

Fleetwood will be without Bobby Grant and Conor McAleny when they welcome the Spireites to Highbury on Tuesday, with the pair due back soon after knee and ankle injuries.

One-time Chesterfield goalkeeper Alex Cairns could return to the Fleetwood goal, after he was replaced by Chris Neal in Saturday’s 1-1 Emirates FA Cup tie with Hereford.

Chesterfield will continue to be without long term absentees Gozie Ugwu, Jordan Sinnott and Jordan Flores. Matt Briggs returned to the bench in the penalty shoot-out win over Man City U21s and could be in contention to make his first start back at Highbury.

Manager - Uwe Rosler

Rosler has been Fleetwood manager since 2016, and since then was able to guide them to an impressive fourth place finish in Sky Bet League One last season. Boasting a win percentage well into the 40s, his side are now mid-table in a packed bunch in the league table.

The German is most renowned for his spell with Manchester City, appearing over 150 times for the club in both the Premier League and Division One in the 1990s. He also enjoyed spells at a host of Bundesliga clubs, as well as Southampton and West Brom. He finished his playing career in 2003 with Norwegian side Lillestrom.

Rosler's first venture into management came at the same club, taking over the reins at Lillestrom in 2004. After that he went onto manage Viking and Molde, both of Norway's top division. In June 2011 he returned to England to manage Brentford, before being given the Wigan job in December 2013. He then went onto have a tough spell with Leeds, managing just 12 games before being appointed Fleetwood boss.

One to watch - Devante Cole

Son of former Manchester United and England striker Andy Cole, Devante Cole is Fleetwood's one to watch.

The Former Man City youth product is finally beginning to find his feet in the EFL, and is currently the Cod Army's top goal scorer this season with nine strikes – his latest coming in the FA Cup tie with Hereford United.

Cole has played in League One throughout his entire career, having had loan spells with Barnsley and MK Dons in 2013/14.  At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he signed permanently for Bradford, scoring five times in 19 league games before moving to Fleetwood in January of the same season.

Head to head

Fleetwood and Chesterfield have met just twelve times in their history, with the pair last meeting in League One last season as the Spireites slipped to a 2-1 defeat. Amari'i Bell and Victor Nirennold scored for Fleetwood whilst Jay O'Shea bagged from the penalty spot for Chesterfield.

The record between the two teams stands as follows:

Fleetwood - 4 (wins).

Draws - 3.

Chesterfield - 5 (wins).

From the Dugout

Spireites assistant manager Nicky Eaden says that after having a weekend without a fixture the Town squad will be ready for a tough match in Lancashire.

“We’ve had a good day’s training and have managed to do a lot of match preparation," said Eaden.

“It’s going to be a tough one no matter what side they put out, they’ll want to win and progress in the competition.

“So, we’ll have to be at our best, but hopefully we can go there and get a result.”
