Chesterfield went down to a 4-2 defeat at home to Bradford City, in their opening game of this season’s Checkatrade Trophy.
The sides were level at the interval, with Omari Patrick cancelling out Kristian Dennis’ opener.
But two goals in six second half minutes put Bradford ahead - a lead which the Yorkshire side never relinquished.
The Spireites started brightly, enjoying spells of possession outside the Bradford penalty area, but the visitors had the first real chance, as Daniel Pybus rounded Joe Anyon before seeing his goalbound effort cleared off the line by Louis Reed.
Bradford then went close to scoring again, with a shot from outside the box by Romain Vincelot flying just over.
In the 12th minute, Connor Dimaio was stretchered off the field due to an injury, being replaced by Charlie Wakefield.
Wigan loanee Jordan Flores was then involved in two chances for the Spireites, first forcing a save out of keeper Rouven Sattelmaier with a powerful effort from outside the box.
Dennis then scuffed his effort wide, after a long ball down the left channel was passed on by Flores.
The Spireites took the lead through Dennis (24), who received Reed’s pass to the left of goal and drove a left-footed effort into the right corner of Sattelmaier’s goal.
Vincelot then had to deny Gozie Ugwu with a block, after the striker was played through.
Sattelmaier was then forced off by injury, being replaced by Colin Doyle.
Patrick went close for the Bantams, getting on the end of a drag-back before scuffing his effort across goal.
Bradford equalised in first-half stoppage time through Patrick following a corner, as he received the ball just outside the box before producing a fine finish.
Bradford made a half-time substitution with Nicky Law replacing Alex Gilliead.
Patrick claimed the first chance of the second half for Bradford after good possession from the Yorkshire side, being played behind the defence to the left of goal but firing straight at Joe Anyon.
Reed immediately went close at the other end, firing just wide from outside the box.
However, Bradford took the lead after a deflected Patrick shot looped over to Alex Jones (56), who headed home.
Daniel Devine went close to adding a third, before Jones (62) scored his second of the night to put Bradford in the driving seat, firing a low effort into the bottom left corner.
Flores went looking for an instant response, firing over from distance.
Six minutes past the hour-mark, the Spireites then made two changes, with Andy Kellett and Chris O’Grady replacing Dennis and Wakefield.
Laurence Maguire then flashed a low effort wide of the right hand post after a surging run from midfield.
Maguire went close again, with a looped a header on to the roof of the net following a free kick.
Jordan Sinnott (78) scored a fine solo effort, curling an effort in off the left-hand post.
But Hanson restored Bradford’s two-goal lead just a minute later with a low shot.
