Team News

Spireites boss Gary Caldwell, will once again have a fully fit squad to choose from bar long-term absentees Joe Rowley and summer signing Jerome Binnom-Williams.

New signing Andy Kellett is also included in the squad, having signed on loan from Wigan Athletic on Friday.

Newport boss Michael Flynn, is set to include new signing Padraig Amond in his match day squad, following the striker’s arrival from Hartlepool United earlier this week.

The opposition

A former Exiles player, Michael Flynn was appointed Newport manager on a permanent basis on May 9, after a successful spell as caretaker manager, masterminding the club’s Sky Bet League Two survival with a game to spare.

Flynn has started his debut full campaign in fine style, guiding his team to two wins, two draws and one defeat from their first five games – including last Saturday’s impressive 1-0 win away at Coventry City.

A midfielder as a player, Flynn clocked up over 400 career appearances for the likes of Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Bradford City.

One to watch

Shawn McCoulsky

Likened to current Swansea City striker, Tammy Abraham, Shawn McCoulsky joined the Exiles on loan from Bristol City last month and has certainly made an immediate impact at Rodney Parade.

He scored a 94th minute equaliser on his debut, in the club’s opening match of the season at Stevenage and followed that up with a brace in the 2-0 victory over Southend United in the Carabao Cup first round.

McCoulsky joined his parent club from Dulwich Hamlet in November 2015 and since then he’s featured regularly for the Robin’s U23 side as well as enjoying loan spells at Weston-Super-Mare, Torquay United and Bath City.

Head to Head

This weekend’s meeting will be the 37th between the two clubs since they first met in 1946. With the overall record standing at: -

Newport County – 15 wins

Draws – 2

Chesterfield – 19 wins.

While the Spireites have the upper hand in the fixtures overall, you have to go back to December 1969 to find their last win at Newport.

On that occasion, Dave Pugh scored twice in a 2-0 win, with the Spireites going to win the Division Four Championship later that season.

From the dugout

Speaking ahead of the match, Caldwell acknowledged that while the victory over Port Vale was a welcome one and has generated a good atmosphere in training this week, the Spireites will need to be prepared for the trip to Rodney Parade.

He said: "It's massive to have that winning feeling but we now have to move on and be ready for tomorrow.

"I went to watch Newport's game against Leeds United on Tuesday and they were excellent, 5-1 was an unfair reflection.

"They'll provide a really stiff test and it's their first home game of the season, so their crowd will be up for it, the game provide a really big challenge to us."

Can't get to Rodney Parade? Fear not you can still follow all the action from the game.
