Former Spireites Skipper Passes Away

22 August 2017

Sad news reaches us that former Spireites skipper Bill Green has passed away at the age of 66.

Bill joined Chesterfield from Peterborough United in 1979 and lifted the Anglo-Scottish Cup as captain two years later.

A commanding central defender, he made 160 appearances for the Spireites before moving to Doncaster Rovers in 1983.

After a spell as manager of Scunthorpe United, Bill became a much respected player recruitment figure at clubs including Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic and Derby County.

A native of Newcastle, Bill had latterly been working for Southampton as their senior recruitment officer.

Our sincere condolences go to Bill's family and friends.
