Miguel Llera has been named as the academy's new Professional Development Phase lead coach.
The 38-year-old Spaniard, who has been coaching Sheffield Wednesday's U14s for the last three years, said: “I’m very happy to be here.
"I think it’s a great chance for me to be involved with this great club.
“I’ve seen two games today already and I was really pleased with what I saw. I think people can be really proud of the youth team at Chesterfield.”
Academy manager Mark Smith said: "Miguel holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has a wealth of experience, so he will be great addition to the academy staff."
Llera retired from playing two years ago after playing for a number of English clubs including Sheffield Wednesday.
He replaces Dylan Kerr, who left the club last month to become head coach of Gor Mahia in Kenya.
