The youth team came from behind on Tuesday afternoon to draw 1-1 with Mansfield Town in their opening game of the season.
In wet conditions at Rainworth, the young Spireites fell behind to a first-half penalty before drawing level after the break.
Conor Fowler scored from the spot for Chesterfield.
Academy manager Mark Smith delivered the following post-match verdict: "I thought it was quite a close game. They just edged it in the first half with a penalty which came about following a mistake.
"We made a couple of changes at half time and got on top, which was really pleasing. I thought we then took over and spent a lot of time in their half of the pitch.
"We got back on level terms due to the application and attitude of Joe Phillips, who chased a lost ball and made it into a possible goalscoring chance which resulted in a penalty. Conor Fowler despatched it nice and confidently.
"We had a few half chances and they came back into it in the last five minutes or so.
"Overall, a draw was a fair result but I was really pleased with our second-half performance. We matched them physically, which was pleasing to see."
