The Spireites youth team fell to a 2-1 away defeat at Notts County at the weekend in their latest league encounter.
Despite a positive first-half performance the visitors fell behind and though Joe Rowley levelled matters from the spot, a penalty at the other end decided things after a defensive handball in the Spireites' box.
Mark Smith, academy manager, reported back on the match: "The first half was probably as well as we've played. We dominated possession but struggled a bit when we got into the final third, because when we take Ricky (German) out of the equation he's a big miss for us.
"That gives an opportunity for others to take his place and we're looking for them to do that. In fairness, we're looking for Ricky not to come back with us, so there is a chance for other lads.
"In the second half it was more even, we'd gone a goal down from probably their first shot on goal. It was nip-and-tuck and we equalised but fell behind again to a penalty.
"All-in-all I was quite please and we had a couple of stand-out players in Joe Rowley and Connor Fowler. Joe especially was good, he's looking to turn his weaknesses into strengths in his recent performances."
