The young Spireites were far too strong for Bradford City on Friday as they beat the Bantams 5-0 in their latest league match at Clay Cross.

Two a-piece from Ricky German and Jack Brownell gave the hosts a 4-0 half-time lead and German completed his hat-trick after the break to give the Spireites their fantastic five.

"It was as good as the scoreline suggested," said Mark Smith, academy manager. "From some of the recent performances you can say that someone was going to get a bit of a hiding and it worked out today.

"We had to earn the right to play, we started off well making a few chances and then Ricky got the first goal by charging down the 'keeper and tapping it in and we went from there.

"It was a good team performance. We defended well, we've been working on certain things during the week and that worked which was good. It looked like they had taken on board what we're trying to do.

"There were no weak performances, everyone did their bit and the pleasing thing was that in the last half an hour we had a chance to get some of the under 16s on and get them some experience too."
