Ricky German and Dylan Parkin got a taste of first team involvement at the weekend when they were both named on the bench for the Spireites' stalemate at Oldham Athletic.
The duo are second year scholars in the academy, but promising performances for the youth team and in training with the first team have seen them offered the chance to be involved with recent matches.
First year professionals Curtis Morrison and Derek Daly have also been given game time in pre-season and from the bench this season, with the academy graduates being given the chance by Danny Wilson.
German spoke about integrating with the professionals: "I'm grateful for the opportunity with the first team, it's a good club here and they give youngsters a chance, it shows that hard work pays off.
"The manager's said to me to work hard, score goals in training and do everything right on and off the pitch.
"Mark Smith's spent a lot of time with me, because when I first came in I wasn't up to it. He's given me his time and I've been able to progress, so I'm really thankful for that."
Academy manager Smith has been pleased to see the players move through the system despite it meaning his side missed them for their 0-0 draw against Wrexham last week.
He said: “It hurt us that Ricky wasn’t there but obviously that’s the idea to move people through so I’m happy.
"I hope we don’t see Ricky and Dylan again because they're able to stick around with the first team. I've said to the other players, there’s an opportunity so step up to the plate and take it and hopefully there’s more to come.”
Smith’s side face Notts County on Saturday in their latest match, a full list of youth team fixtures can be viewed here.
