The Spireites suffered their biggest setback of the season so far at home to Lincoln City on Friday, losing 6-2 to the Imps after a first half onslaught.
Dylan Hand had given the hosts the ideal start within two minutes, but his opener was followed by six unanswered away strikes before half time, with Jay Smith scoring a Spireites consolation with the second period's only goal.
"It was one of those games," commented academy manager Mark Smith. "You get games like that. We started off quite well, took the lead but then conceded two minutes after that through a mistake and after that every shot they had ended up in the goal.
"There was an own goal in that, so you can get a picture of what was happening, while our lads were shell-shocked. It was 6-1 at half time, which is unheard of, but it has given me and insight into what happens when we're not playing well.
"If I'm trying to be positive I can say that at least we won the second half 1-0, I didn't think we were at it in the warm-up and we took that into the game."
