With the international break in full swing, we take a closer look at the three Spireites players who have jetted off to represent their countries at both senior and under 21 level.
Connor Dimaio, Liam Graham and Ryan Fulton will each be busy this week with Dimaio and Fulton both having European under 21 qualifiers while Graham will be occupied with two friendlies.
Graham will have plenty of travelling to do after his first senior call-up, as New Zealand head to Nashville to play Mexico on Saturday night and then to Washington DC to face USA on Tuesday. He joins the likes of Winston Reid and Chris Wood in the squad for the pair of friendlies in what’s been a speedy rise for the full-back, who only made his club debut against Bury on 24 September.
Speaking to NZ Football he said: “It took some time to sink in but I’m very excited, I love being from New Zealand and the fact I can represent my country at the highest level is a huge honour.
“Most of my nerves were squashed on the plane flight over and when I saw all the guys, they're all really good and included me straight away.”
Fulton has already been in action. He made his first appearance for Scotland under 21s on Tuesday in a 2-0 defeat away at Iceland. The 'keeper, who has five caps for the under 19s, will have the chance to make amends when Scotland take on Macedonia in their final qualifier on Tuesday evening. Although they are unable to qualify even with a win, they’ll be determined to end a run of three consecutive defeats.
Dimaio’s Republic of Ireland under 21 side also have their final qualifying match of the campaign when they host Serbia tonight. In the previous international break, Serbia edged past Ireland in a 3-2 win which Dimaio came off the bench to play the last 15 minutes of. A win could see them finish as high as third, however they won’t be able to qualify for a play-off place.
Best of luck to all three players who will return to the club next week.
