The Spireites' last five league losses have all been by a single goal, and Sam Hird says the side are on a mission to make sure they make the most of their openings.
In their last outing, the 1-0 home loss to Fleetwood on Tuesday, the Spireites hit the woodwork twice and had multiple untaken chances, and Hird knows that ruthlessness is the key in turning the Spireites' form around.
"We're not conceding many chances in matches, but we are getting punished for them," he explained. "We are creating chances in the majority of the games that we play but we just can't seem to find that cutting edge to finish teams off.
"I do think we've got a young side this year and they're still learning, and players are making mistakes that our costing us, but it's our job as players and as staff to stick together and what we believe in and hopefully we'll get that bit of luck from sticking together and staying confident."
With debuts handed out to youth team graduates including Ricky German and Laurence Maguire, the pressure has been put on the incoming teenagers, and Hird says they've responded well to the challenge.
"I think they've done well considering the circumstances," he said. "They've come in, put a good shift and you can see they've all got ability. It's about putting that ability in at a consistent level where you can produce it week-in week-out.
"We have had injuries to a lot of experienced players - we even have players out playing who are doing so with little niggles because you want to keep out as many players as you can.
"We've got a few players coming back now, experienced players and that will be good for the group, not just on the pitch and it's their job to come in and push the lads who are already in the side and try and get back in it."
