The Spireites' youth team came within a whisker of an impressive away win at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw. After going behind, Luke Rawson drew the Spireites level before the break and Joel Phillips had them en route to an away win before the youth side were pegged back by a last-gasp peanlty.
Mark Smith, academy manager, talked through the game: "It felt like a defeat, they scored with the last kick of the game with a penalty. We've got to lern from things like that with regards to managing games.
"We were 1-0 down, equalised through a Rawson goal, then took the lead through a good goal from Joel Phillips with ten minutes to go. From there we lived on the edge and had to defend really well at times.
"We had them right in their own defensive third as we looked to see out the game but elected to cross when there was no-one in there and from one big knock up the pitch they won a penalty and scored from that."
With no weekend game to prepare for this Saturday Smith said he'll be keeping his squad active through some practice matches.
He said: "We have a few behind-closed-doors games arranged to keep the players where we want them, on their toes without a game on Saturday. If we can stay undefeated in the league up to Christmas we'll be close to where we want to be."
