The Spireites needed a win to secure survival, and a 3-0 Bury success confirmed a place in Sky Bet League 1 for 2016/17; and the manager was delighted with the manner of the performance.

A Jay O'Shea penalty and a defelected Lee Novak strike gave the hosts a half time lead that never looked like being given away, substitute Dan Gardner placing a cherry on the safety cake with a wonderful team counter in the second half.

With the League One survival mission accomplished, Danny Wilson was pleased with the way it all came together on True Blue Day: "It was accomplished very well, I thought the performances was terrific. Could we have had more? Yes we could have.

"From back to front I thought we defended well when we had to, we showed the commitment we needed to get results and some of the football we played was exceptional - some of the individual performances were top drawer.

"All-in-all it's a fantastic day for us. We had to stay up and we've done it, thankfully it didn't go to the last day of the season so we can relax a bit and let our fingernails grow back.

"It's not been an easy season but when the players put on a performance like that under extreme pressure so they deserve a lot of credit."

With Bradford City still to play to end the campaign next Sunday lunch time, Wilson paid tribute to those behind the scenes at the club, revealing that there would be some survival celebrations to toast.

"There will be a few beers going down the throat, I can promise you that!

"It's been difficult and it's been hard, even the players not playing and the staff, they've really dedicated themselves to the work during the week and working towards the weekend.

"This week everyone will have a sigh of relief but certainy they'll be tired. We can all put our feet up now thankfully."
