With a 51-game season now at an end skipper Gary Liddle says the Spireites will be looking to have a break from football ready to come back fighting for pre-season.

The season ended without glory but with the achieved aim of Sky Bet League 1 survival for Danny Wilson's men, with Liddle keen for the Spireites fans to have something to cheer from the start of the new campaign.

"It's been a tough season, a long season, both mentally and physically - and that goes for the fans as well. We're hoping the fans will be coming back in their numbers next year and we can give them something to shout about for the 150th anniversary year.

"I think everyone needs a good rest," he said. "It's vital that you switch off from everything and come back revitalised in July ready for pre-season."

With the team now having the best part of two months off Liddle gave details of the likely plans for the Spireites squad members.

He said: "Most players I've known from most squads will get themselves away at some point and get a bit of sun on their backs and just switch off from football.

"It's important to do that, as well as being ready to come back in decent shape after the summer, ready to start a tough pre-season.

"We don't want another season like this one next year, so it's important that we're ready for it come July."
