Aiming for some payback after a loss in their home fixture earlier this season, the youth team put six past Hartlepool United to win 6-2 on Saturday.

Goals from Martell Daswell and Davis Keillor-Dunn twice gave the Spireites the lead, though they were twice pegged back by the Pools for a 2-2 half time scoreline.

After the break the visitors ran riot, scoring four unanswered goals to claim an emphatic victory; a double for Ricky German, one of Joe Rowley and a late sixth from Tom Marshall doing the damage.

Academy manager Mark Smith spoke glowingly about a very good day at the office: "It was really good," he said. "It was probably our best performance over 90 minutes this season. The pitch helped, it was lovely up there with lots of grass on it and nice and flat.

"The ball moved really quickly and we talked beforehand that we owed them one. We've got better since the last time when they beat us, but to turn them around in the manner that we did was really really good.

"We can go and give anyone a game and we've proved that in certain games. We always tend to have at least half an hour in games where we're well on top and should be scoring goals and putting games to bed.

"We've got some good players, simple as that, but we've got to get the consistency there as well. A few have played well in the reserves and now it's about pushing on and when the players turn it on they show you the quality they've got."
