Substitute Jay O'Shea struck the Spireites level with a fine second half goal as the home side recorded a 1-1 draw with Blackpool at the Proact.
After Gboly Ariyibi hit the post for the hosts early in the half, the visitors hit Tommy Lee's frame three times themselves, the scoreline somehow still without goals at the break.
The Spireites were behind on 53 minutes when Blackpool broke and Brad Potts had a long-range effort that deflected heavily and ended up in Lee's net, though the lead lasted only a few minutes as O'Shea fired a crackerjack of a goal into the top corner from outside the box.
There were efforts on goal for both sides within the first five minutes with Ollie Banks screwing a low drive past Colin Doyle’s right-hand post for the home side, whilst Potts tested Lee in the Spireites goal but he saved comfortably.
With 15 minutes gone, Chesterfield almost took the lead thanks in aid to Blackpool captain David Ferguson. The ball was well worked down the left-hand side by Declan John and Gboly Ariyibi and it was the latter burst into the six yard box and whipped a low ball in that Ferguson could only miskick inches wide of the post.
Two minutes later, the Spireites came even closer to opening the scoring when the lively Ariyibi latched on to a lovely Ollie Banks pass but unfortunately his fine curling effort came back off the post.
In the 21st minute, it was the visitors' turn to hit the woodwork as Potts’ low drive from 25 yards skidded along the turf before cannoning off the post.
Ariyibi continued to cause problems for the Blackpool defence, and just before the half hour mark he was picked out by Banks in the area before firing a low ball in but the Tangerine’s' managed to clear the ball from under their own bar.
With less than five minutes of the first half remaining, the visitors again hit the woodwork. Clark Robertson rose highest to meet a corner but he saw his powerful header crash back off the crossbar before Tom Aldred hit the post with a header from the resulting rebound as Blackpool pushed for the opening goal before the half-time whistle.
The Spireites started the second half on the front foot and they almost opened the scoring in the 53rd minute. Half-time sub Jay O’Shea found Banks who flicked a cross into Novak who in turn found Sylvan Ebanks-Blake but he couldn’t get his shot away.
A moment later and it was the visitors who broke the deadlock thanks in part to a huge deflection, Potts carried the ball into the Spireites half before unleashing an effort from 25 yards but the deflection left Tommy Lee with no chance.
Blackpool’s lead only lasted four minutes as O’Shea lit up the game with a fantastic strike from outside the area. He picked the ball up from Novak, cut inside and curled the ball superbly into the top corner, sending the Proact supporters wild.
Chesterfield continued to dominate proceedings but found Blackpool dangerous on the counter attack; particularly Potts who, with 25 minutes to go, was found unmarked in the box but he dragged his shot wide when he really should have done better.
The last 20 minutes were dominated by the Spireites, especially after Blackpool were reduced to 10 men when David Ferguson was sent off for a second bookable offence; but were unable to test Colin Doyle in the Blackpool goal.
There were a couple of penalty shout for the Spireites, but the referee disagreed, notably after Novak appeared to be pushed over in the box late on.
The Spireites pushed for the winning goal but couldn’t manage to break a dogged Blackpool defence down, the hosts remaining unbeaten in four games.
