New signing Reece Mitchell admits the lure of first-team football prompted him to join Chesterfield from Chelsea after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed deal.
Speaking to Spireites Player HD, Mitchell said: "I had a really good season in the under-21s season at Chelsea and I was offered another year, but I wanted to play some first-team football and get some league experience. So when Chesterfield showed interest, I was really happy and was raring to go. I couldn’t say 'no' to Chesterfield.
"I’m really happy to be here and I’m excited about the challenge. season was not the best season, but the season before that, they got to the play-offs and did really well. The prospect of uprooting from his native south does not faze the 20-year-old. He said: "I'm really excited about it. I've lived in London all my life and been at Chelsea a decade now so it will be a different experience but it's an experience I'm looking forward to."
Mitchell helped Chelsea win the FA Youth Cup in 2012 and the Under-21 Premier League two years later.
