Danny Wilson has revealed that Tommy Lee looks set to miss the start of the season with a shoulder injury.
The Spireites boss, who was already searching for a senior keeper to provide Lee with competition, may also have to look for someone who could provide cover in the event of the long-serving shot stopper being out of action.
Wilson said: "Tommy is in a position where he may not start the season so we may need two goalkeepers to come in."
The Spireites have already made four signings since the end of last season and Wilson is planning further forays in the transfer market. "We’ve got some irons in the fire and we're still hoping to bring at least another two or three in, maybe more," said the Spireites boss.
"We're still looking for a left-sided centre-back. We need to have that natural left-sider in the club - that’s going to be important to us. We’ll have to wait and see. Maybe one or two may have to leave as well, but we'll address that when we can.
"In the meantime, it's assembling a team that can push because it’s a very strong league. It was strong last year, but it's even stronger this year, with the likes of Oxford coming up and the teams that were relegated, Bolton, Charlton in particular and MK Dons, who are very strong.
"They’ve added that extra bit of quality into the league and they’re spending money and spending it hard as well, so it’ll be a very tough season for us."
