The Spireites youth team got their pre-season off to a flier with a 5-2 victory over Notts County.
Academy manager Mark Smith was delighted with the result. He said: “It was a good game and I’m really happy to come away with five goals. We were finding our feet in the first half, trying to give everyone half an hour. It was especially good because Notts County will probably be one of the strongest teams in our league next season.
“It was a bit like last season in the first half,” he said. “We went 1-0 up then conceded two goals within five minutes but we came back strong in the second half and ran out comfortable winners, which was pleasing.
"It’s the first game and we’re still a fair way off, but the lads look nice and strong. The first years who were involved look strong. The second years who we’re expecting a lot from this season like Ricky German, Joe Rowley and Jack Brownhill got better and stronger as the game went on."
Daly, German, Charlie Wakefield, Owen Darwen and George Lynam got the goals with Wakefield’s 25-yard strike the pick of the bunch.
