The Spireites are back in North Derbyshire as pre-season got going at the club today - with all five new summer signings also in attendance for some gruelling testing.
Along with a number of triallists, incoming Spireites Paul McGinn, Jon Nolan, Kristian Dennis, Reece Mitchell and Ched Evans were all looking in attendance looking lean and mean as they pulled on their new training kits for the first time.
The morning was mainly made up of testing drills to find out the precise fitness levels of the returning players, all under the watchful eye of strength and conditioning coach Mal Purchase.
Ian Evatt, Dan Jones and Angel Martinez also joined the session, though the Spaniard is not yet ready to be fully integrated in the sessions. Liam O'Neil is still recuperating from his injury and, like Tommy Lee, was not in action today.
"The legs are tired," admitted Sam Hird after the first session back after summer. "We've just had a hard session there, done a bit of fitness testing and got the ball out, which is always nice on the first day. All the lads have applied themselves well and you've got to do it.
"You go off and want to rest the legs for a couple of weeks and then it becomes about using the fitness program that you've been given by the fitness coach, building yourself up so you're ready for pre-season where the hard work starts now.
"Looking at the first day, we've got a good group of lads who have come back in fit, or as fit as they need to be for the start of pre-season, now it's all about getting that team spirit, especially with all the new lads that we've got here today."
Midfielder Jon Nolan was relieved to get the first day under his belt, though confessed to a sleepless night before his first training session his new club.
"It went well to be honest, it was mainly testing and a bit of fitness and it went well. No one likes pre-season, leading up to it is scary - I couldn't sleep last night because I was that nervous coming in.
"It's my first day today so I don't really know everyone's names yet. We're in every day this week so I think by the end of the week I should be settled in nicely."
