On his pre-season debut, Ched Evans made one goal and scored another as Chesterfield continued their warm-up with a 3-0 victory over Ilkeston at the New Manor Ground.
Ritchie Humphreys and Jake Beesley also found the net in a game which saw Evans partner Sylvan-Ebanks-Blake in attack. Fellow summer signings Ryan Fulton, Paul McGinn and Reece Mitchell were also named in the starting line-up and Laurence Maguire was given a run-out in defence. Keeper Lloyd Allison, who was released by Huddersfield at the end of last season, was among the substitutes.
Ebanks-Blake found himself in space on the right-hand side, advanced into the area and sent over a low cross aimed for Mitchell, but the ball was hacked clear by a defender.
Dion Donohue lofted the ball to Ebanks-Blake inside the area and the striker attempted to chest the ball down but it went out of play for a goal kick.
Evans then had the net in his sights, holding off Luke Foster before rolling a low shot wide.
Ilkeston’s Luis Rose tried a long-range effort which went wide of Fulton’s right-hand post.
Following a Connor Dimaio corner, Evans fired in a shot which was blocked.
Mitchell’s cross from the left was a little high for Maguire, whose flicked header went went.
Gboly Ariyibi played a fine ball to McGinn on the right wing and his pull-back found Evans whose goal-bound shot was cleared off the line.
There was a chance to open the scoring when Dimaio’s corner was headed down by Gary Liddle and Ebanks-Blake, from close range, was unable to adjust his positioning adequately, sending the ball over.
Dimaio’s attempted cross evaded everyone and the ball went through to keeper Jamie Hannis, who claimed comfortably.
The hosts threatened when Rose briefly found himself in space on the right-hand side of the area before firing wide after being closed down by Donohue.
The Spireites line-up showed two changes when the teams came out for the start of the second half with Allinson taking over in goal and Dimaio replaced by Ritchie Humphreys, who soon made an impact.
Evans got to the byline on the right-hand side of the area and pulled the ball back to Humphreys (47) who scored with ease.
Evans increased the lead five minutes later, heading in from close range after Maguire headed back at the far post following a corner.
Chesterfield made a double substitution with strike-duo Evans and Ebanks-Blake replaced by Curtis Morrison and Rai Simons.
There was a further change a few minutes later when Liam Graham took McGinn’s place at right-back.
There was a chance for Ilkeston when substitute David Jones directed a header on target but it was straight at Allinson.
Mitchell then went close to extending Chesterfield’s advantage when his header forced a good save from Hannis.
Simons also had a chance to score what would have been an impressive goal when he got on the end of a fine ball from Humphreys and produced a deft lob to beat the keeper, but the ball went narrowly wide of the target.
Mitchell was the next Spireites player to make way on a hot, energy-sapping afternoon when he was replaced by Dan Jones.
Ilkeston’s Rory Coleman tried a long-range shot which was straight at Allinson.
There was a further change made by manager Danny Wilson when Jake Beesley came on as a replacement for Ariyibi.
The young striker was soon in the thick of the action, putting a header over the bar.
Beesley (83) then made it 3-0 in Chesterfield’s next attack, forcing his way through the centre of the home defence before firing past Hannis.
