After his third pre-season appearance Ian Evatt feels his getting closer to match fitness on a daily basis after his troublesome Achilles injury.
The centre-back picked up the injury in the final game of 2015 at home to Coventry City, but after being misdiagnosed the complaint ended up ruling him out for the rest of the season.
However, after a gruelling start to pre-season, including the week-long training camp in Hungary, Evatt feels he is closing in on full readiness for the new campaign.
"I'm just pleased to be 100% fit," he said. "I'm getting fitter and stronger every day. Morgs (Chris Morgan) has said I looked confident and comfortable.
"My injury is fine, now it's about working on fitness levels and getting back to where I was seven or eight months ago."
Speaking after the 3-1 win at Matlock Town, Evatt spoke about a good evening facing the Derbyshire rivals as well as his late headed goal which secured the Spireites' win.
"I should score more, I always say that," the defender confided. "Connor (Dimaio) put a great ball in and I managed to get on the end of it, seal the win and life the trophy.
"There was a fantastic crowd here and with the weather being so nice it's a big bumper crowd. It's been a pleasure to see everyone and give the fans the chance to look at some of the new lads."
