The Chesterfield youth team return to league action on Saturday in a local rivalry with Mansfield Town in the Youth Alliance U18 North East.
The game kicks-off at 11am in Staveley MWFC, and after last weekend’s postponement against Oldham the youth team travelled to Merseyside in midweek for a friendly with Premier League Everton
The exhibition ended in a closely-fought 2-1 defeat and academy manager Mark Smith has taken a lot of positives into tomorrow’s game with Mansfield Town.
“The lads are chomping it at the bit and the lads are looking forward to it," said Smith. "Hopefully there’s not too much rain between now and tomorrow so the game can go ahead then hopefully we can get all three points and off we go.
“They lads took confidence from the game at Everton on Tuesday, we lost 2-1 but it was as close as the scoreline suggests. There was not a lot of difference between them and a Premier League side so they should take confidence from that.
“However, there’ll be different problems that Mansfield will present us with tomorrow; we’re expecting a physical game and we’ve got to stand up and be counted.”
Chesterfield face selection issues with Jake Hudson, Ricky German, Dan Thistlewaite and Jack Brownell all unavailable, while Luke Randall and Brad Holmes are both away at Clipstone on loan.
George Millner also misses out after picking up a knock against Everton on Tuesday.
