The Chesterfield youth team return to competitive action on Saturday as they host Oldham Athletic in the Youth Alliance U18 North East.
The game kicks-off at 11am at Clay Cross, instead of the usual pitch at Staveley.
The Spireites suffered a 2-1 defeat against Barnsley in a friendly on Tuesday, but now academy manager Mark Smith thinks his side is ready for the return to the league.
Smith said: “Christmas gets in the way a little bit, but it’s also a time that we all look forward and it’s good for the lads to get a break. We let some of the guys who live slightly further afield go home for a break, whereas the others have been in and out.
“It’s played havoc a little bit with the lack of flow and tempo, but we’ve been back in full-time training since the turn of the year, building up to our first game tomorrow against Oldham.”
“On Tuesday, we could see a bit of ring rustiness and some fitness problems, but hopefully that should have got the lads blowing and opened up their pipes.
"We’ll wait and see tomorrow, but we’ve got three subs and we’ll make them at the right time if we need to."
Chesterfield goalkeeper Dylan Parkin will miss the game after falling awkwardly on Tuesday, with Ellis Spencer coming in to replace him, while the rest of the squad is fully fit.
