The youth team won their derby on Saturday lunchtime as early and late goals saw them beat Mansfield Town 2-0 at Inkersall Road.In the opening moments of the match George Lynam headed home a Derek Daly corner and while 'keeper Dylan Parkin was forced into some saves a Martell Daswell goal five minutes from time wrapped up the points.
Academy manager Mark Smith was pleased with his day's showing, with his side showing the determined side of their game to confirm the result.
Smith said: "The pitch didn't help because there had been a game on it on the day before so it didn't have much time to recover.
"Having said that, I think both teams did their best to try and play and we came out on top. I think we deserved it and were probably the better side overall - and it was nice to get a clean sheet as we haven't had many of them all season.
"When the lads apply themselves we can compete with anyone, it's just that we've had lapses in games that have cost us dearly and we've had mountains to climb by not starting games well.
"They are a good set of players and it's pleasing on the occasions when you see that."
