Live Life Better Derbyshire offers a free weight-management support programme in The HUB at the Proact Stadium on Wednesday evenings.
The session, which starts at 5pm, helps members achieve their personal weight-loss targets and maintain the weight-loss long term.
Over 90 per cent of the people who attend lose weight during the first few weeks of their programme and over half the people they see lose at least five per cent of their weight inside three months.
Andrea Walker, weight management advisor for Live Life Better Derbyshire, said: “I would definitely advise anyone to give the programme a try. We are a free service so there’s no charge. Members get a free weigh-in, education and a manual to log goals and set targets for what they want to achieve over the 12-week period.
“We are different to other programmes in that we’re not pushing a diet. We are trying to get people to eat healthier, control portion size and increase their activity to maintain a healthy weight.
“If someone is in the right frame of mind for losing weight, then it does work. The groups are really friendly, everyone’s really supportive and I’m available to give advice as well. All the advice we offer is from a reputable source and evidence based."
Andrea explained how people can join the programme. She said: “Firstly, you could go to your local GP practice and either see your GP or practice nurse who will have all the relevant information and referral forms for the programme. You could also self-refer yourself, so you can just drop in to see us when we hold a session in The HUB."
The programme is for people who have a BMI of 25 or more. BMI is a measure of your weight in relation to your height. Knowing this can help you decide whether community or specialist weight management services would suit you best or whether you can access other community services.
