The young Spireites took the lead in the first half but ultimately fell to a 2-1 away defeat at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday lunch time.
Ricky German gave the visitors the lead 20 minutes in, but the lead was soon cancelled out and Rovers gained all three points in the closing stages with a set piece winner.
Academy manager Mark Smith gave his take on what was a nip-and-tuck encounter: "It was very close, with not a lot of difference between both teams. It probably came down to a couple of mistakes on our part and with not taking the chances we created.
"We should have come away with some kind of a result, but it's been like that for the most part of the season - the same problems are still costing us now.
"On a slightly sloping pitch we had the wind right behind us going down the hill in the first half but we didn't use the conditions very well.
"We did better in the second half when I thought we might struggle a little bit. We played the conditions, worked it from back to front and got in a few positions playing the ball along the floor.
"We lost the game on a set-piece in the last ten minutes, with set pieces being our Achilles heel all season. We haven't learned from past mistakes - and we need to see the desire from the lads to do things properly."
