Gary Liddle has joined Chesterfield from Bradford City for an undisclosed fee, signing a long-term contract. The 29-year-midfielder, who can also play in central defence, played under Spireites boss Danny Wilson at Hartlepool United.
Liddle was part of Middlesbrough's FA Youth Cup-winning side in 2004 and also played for Notts County before joining Bradford in the summer of 2014.
Commenting on the move, Liddle said: "I'm delighted to get it all sorted. The chance to work with the manager again really appealed to me and that was a major factor in my decision to sign because Danny is one of the best managers I've worked for.
"I know Ritchie Humphreys as well and he's told me about the club. I'm predominantly a midfielder but I can play at centre-back as well."
Spireites boss Danny Wilson said: "I've known Gary for the best part of ten years. I took him from Middlesbrough to Hartlepool and he did well for us.
"He's a versatile, no-nonsense player who is a 'seven out of ten' every week and I'm sure the fans will take to him."
Liddle became the second player to sign for the Spireites on transfer deadline day following the capture of young midfielder Connor Dimaio on a deal until the end of the season.
