The Chesterfield youth team lost 1-0 away at rivals Mansfield Town on Saturday as they were unable to claim a second straight win to start the season.
Cameron Healey scored the game's only goal after 77 minutes, but throughout the Spireites had created chances to score themselves, without being able to take any of them.
Academies operations manager John Knapper evaluated the match: "Mansfield were a big, strong side and it took us a while to get used to the physicality of it. The lads grew into the game and really in the second half they should have put the game to bed.
"We had three or four really good opportunities where at 0-0 you score a goal and it changes the complexion of the game so you can go on and get another one, unfortunately we didn't take them you have to do that in the game.
"It was even in the first half, Mansfield were a good side but when we got the ball down and passed we looked just as good and not taking those opportunities came back to haunt us."
