Two days to go! After scoring his first Spireites goal on Tuesday, Gary Liddle knows what his responsibilities as captain are ahead of the big kick-off.

"I need to keep everyone calm, it's pretty frantic come game day." Liddle said. "Everyone's excited, and I include myself in that, we can't wait for the season to start.

"Pre-season is a long slog normally, although ours has been very enjoyable. It's about making sure we go into it in the best frame of mind possible.

"It won't be just down to me, we've got some older heads in there with the likes of Evo (Ian Evatt), Sam Hird will be travelling as well, it will be an exciting game and one that not only the players but everyone around the football club are looking forward to."

Oxford United await in the first game of the Spireites' League One campaign, ticket details are here, and after the U's secured promotion last year the start promises to be a challenging one for Liddle's men.

"It will be tough, like every other League One season," commented Liddle. "There are no easy games in this league. They'll be riding on the crest of a wave, they had a terrific season last year when they got promoted and they'll be wanting to test themselves in this league.

"Everyone starts from zero and everyone will be striving to do as well as they can, that includes us off the back of a disappointing season last season.

"We'll be hoping to do a lot better than that, hopefully we'll be able to keep all our players fit, it will be massive for us to keep our best players out there, then I'm sure we'll do well."
